Every morning my son wakes up early (sometimes too early) and we start our day with a diaper change, breakfast, snuggles, and a book or two. It has become my favorite part of the day because it is usually so early that nobody else is up, so we are able to steal a few quiet moments together.
I read that babies around my son’s age (4 months) start to gain an interest in books and I definitely think this is the case. Sometimes he gets bored, but he will usually just sit there quietly and listen to me read while he stares at the pictures. Because he’s not really interactive yet, I prefer books with a real story as opposed to board books that only have a few words that are trying to teach kids things like vocabulary or how to count. As such, one of our (my) favorite books at the moment is I Love You, Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt.
I Love You, Stinky Face tells the story of how a mom would care for her baby whether he were a baby, a monster, a dragon, a skunk or more, and how she would still love him regardless of what he looked like.
“But Mama, but Mama, what if I were a super smelly skunk, and I smelled so bad that my name was Stinky Face?” I think you can imagine how mama responds. 🙂
It’s obviously a quick read, but if you enjoy doing different voices while you read then you’ll be able to play the part of both the mom and the son. If you’re in the market for short bedtime stories this would be a great option! This is a sweet book that kids are sure to love!
I Love You, Stinky Face is available in paperback form for $3.66 at Amazon. We have the board book version, but that doesn’t appear to be available at the moment.
